This series of images documents the ‘rituals’ women create for themselves to feel stronger and more independent while living in the city.
The project was born from my own experience of living in the city. I am interested in daily creativity and the resourcefulness of women who lead a happy and balanced life in an urban environment.
My subjects are women who perform small acts of self-care and reconnect to nature through activities like allotment gardening or getting out to small pockets of wilderness to walk and swim. I focus not just on these momentary escapes but also on daily activities, back gardens and modes of transport, because even riding a bike can be an act of resilience and self-empowerment.
